RALEIGH, N.C. - Prosecutors have decided to drop all remaining charges against three Duke lacrosse players accused of sexually assaulting a stripper at a team party.
The sensational case was troubled almost from the start. DNA samples found no link to any of the Duke lacrosse players, and a critical change to the accuser’s story forced the dismissal of rape charges in December. It drew so much attention that the attorney general planned to hold his news conference Wednesday Raleigh’s hockey arena.

Finally.
I don't know if anything meaningful can be done to punish that out-of-control prosecutor, but something ought to. The chaos caused by this overzealousness is just incredible.

He is currently before the NC Bar Association facing disbarment on ethics charges. Nifong is facing charges that". . he had withheld DNA evidence from defense attorneys—exculpatory evidence that could show a defendant is not guilty of a crime." There also have been indications that the 3 lacrosse players and their families will be filing suit in civil court against Nifong, and possibly the City of Durham.
It isn't over yet.

That press conference today was BRUTAL against him(from the new guy that was heading the investigation). I've never seen anything THAT negative. He even wants to pass a law to try and stop overreaching prosecutors!

What was done to these kids was disgracful, no hard evidence against them at all.
If I was them I'd sue that woman for slander and attempt to take every penny she owned.

I don't think she has much. If anything, she needs help (e.g. psychiatric, drug intervention).
If anyone is to be "sued", then it probably would be Nifong and Durham. Nifong should have done his job, instead of using this case to further his career. Nifong and City of Durham should have exercised due diligence, instead of covering their collective butts. There is reason for ETHICS in the law profession. By violating the ethics of NC Bar Assoc., Nifong did a disservice to alleged victim, her alleged attackers, and general public.
Besides, Nifong and Durham have deeper pockets than the she does. It probably isn't worth the attorney's time to go after her.

It wouldn't be about the money.

Anytime you sue it's about the money. It's very expensive to pursue a lawsuit. These guys will go after Nifong and Durham County. They will probably also go after Duke University for kicking them out and each of the group of 88 professors and staff that publicly condemned them in a full-page newspaper ad for libel.
A lot of people will be paying a lot of money to these guys.

They weren't kicked out. Two were suspended. One graduated before the suspensions were handed out. The suspensions have been lifted, but I doubt they are going back.

I think the woman should be imprisoned for making a false rape case. She trivializes actual suffering of real rape victims.

Justice is finally served!!! Sad that a person who is sworn to uphold the law can be so screwed up and ambitious that they are willing to risk it all and ruin other peoples lives to get what they want. If I were those guys I would already have a civil suit filed against him.

That lying imbicle who made up these charges should be tarred, feathered, and paraded in front of the nation live and in prime time as the lying sack of you know what that she is (the real word would have served a far better effect here, lol)
Sure wouldn't strip her of any dignity, she has none to begin with, so we cannot say it will cause her phychological problems
