Have a quick question....have any of y'all ever had food not start tasting the same way? For example all of my life have been a 1000 island girl, now only French will do. I used to be able to eat anything hot without even blinking. Now, if it is barely even dipped into hot it is now way too hot.
Anyone ever experience anything like that or am I just out there....

Your taste buds change every 7-10 years.

LOL, and hey I used to like beer, now I only drink Captain Morgan.

I have also heard that your taste buds, skin, and metabolism change every 7 years or so.
Seems like I am more open minded about food than I was years ago, and tend to like it.

Just last week, I met my match when it came to atomic hot wings.
I still like to eat hot stuff, it's just that my taste buds now have a limitation when it comes to hot flavors.

I can tell you that after I had my daughter things changed for me, and not only the taste of food.

I dealt with this in a major way but it was due to a surgery I had. The antibiotics and anesthesia really messed me up. I didn't eat for almost 2 weeks and lost 20 lbs but I had a major infection and was on super-duty meds. In researching this, it is usually not actually your taste that changes but your sense of smell. They are related. I have finally passed through that stage and it got a lot better..........but now I go in for my final surgery tomorrow and am not looking forward to going through the same thing.

The first time that a friend forced me to try sushi, maguro specifically, I absolutely HATED it!! Three weeks later I had one of those cravings where you want something but, can't figure out what it is. After going through all of the foods that I know that I like in my mind and not being able to match those with the craving, I went out on a limb and tried that "sushi crap" again. Well, guess what?! That was exactly what I was craving and now it has become quite the addiction for me!! Now I don't just eat the "basics" I try just about every type I can get my hands on!! EXCEPT for sea urchin!! Rule of thumb- if the name itself sounds gnarly, the dish probably is!!

I used to love liver, cooked brocolli and canned spam, now I can't look at any of it let alone eat it.

Kelarie, have you quit smoking or anything different like that lately? That will definitely change things up.
I haven't ever heard of the buds and/or tastes changing every 7-10 years, but some of the changes in my tastes over the years could certainly be explained by that.

Mushrooms: I used to HATE 'em, now I loves 'em
Avocados: Used to hate (slimy) now, love 'em.
Fish: Used to LOVE it, now I hates it.
Beer: Loved it, STILL love it.
My ex wifes cooking: Hated it, didn't matter what she cooked, it was garbage!

No, I never smoking and nothing has changed otherwise. So I have no clue. One day I could eat hot stuff all day long. Now I try and eat hot stuff and I suffer. Ugh. It is horrible.
Oh well, I guess it is one of those curve balls life throws at ya.
