Is a 6.7 big enough to produce a big tsunami? I see Tokyo felt it. First a TC and then an Earthquake, relation?

I know that Man Yi skirted the lower islands of Japan and not the western coast, but this is pretty ironic.

Fact - I think it depends upon how deep in the ocean and how the plates moved - like the one in Indonesia in 2005.

One of the Japanese nuclear reactors caught fire and smoke is billowing from the reactor. Sounds like when they scrambled an electrical fire started.

generally you see tsunami with quakes over 7.0 with the huge tsunami with ones at least 7.5-8.0.

The 1998 Papua New Guinea Tsunami was triggered by a 7.1 quake
the 2004 Sumatra one was triggered by a 9.0 - 9.3
2006 Java one a 7.7.

Just from my readings it seems a 7.1 or so seems to be the minimum.

I saw this story on the news this morning. The earthquake looks tragic itself, but thank goodness no Tsunami was produced.

I think I read somewhere that the 1998 PNG tsunami was caused by an underwater landslide that was triggered by the earthquake.
