Well, August sure was hot, and I just got the bill for it. $364.26 - ugh! I'll be glad when it's cooler and the bill drops a little.

I think Entergy charges too much...

The new one due is 100 bucks less but good god, thats enough to break the bank. Gesh!!!! I am soooo over it too, come on October........

Mine at the old one bedroom apartment were between $125-$225 (for a one bedroom!)Now I got a bill for 12 days of electric at the 2 bedroom townhome and it was for $52.00, I can't wait to see what a month's worth will be, it should be coming soon as it was hot up here during late July/early August.

We have a 4 BR house, a few rooms have registers closed and we keep our thermostat set on 78. But our bill last month was in the mid $300's too Kelly.

I'm expecting the same for August.

We don't use even billing. Maybe we should but I'd rather just handle the high bills when they occur (usually July and/or August and then January).

Wow, what do you people set your termostat at? Mines at 77* and my bill last month was $132 for a 1400 sqft home.

You're in NC, your kilowatt charge is probaly cheaper. Here in Philly everything is high and I think the apartment complex was splitting the electric bill between 6 apartments, our thermostat was on 70, any higher and the hubby had breathing problems.

My problem is we don't have a darn thermostat, we have 3 window units. Only 2 run at all times, but I suppose thats why our bill was over 400 bucks last month.

Mine was $55 last month. Running 2 AC's to keep my trailer cool and comfy ran it up a bit. During the summer its usually $45 or so.

Mine this month was $425 up from $312 the previous month but I have 8 tons of central a/c blowing at 4200 sq ft. I also have lots of natural gas (oven, 2 hot water heaters, dryer)

I forgot about my dryer, that's electric plus the old man has fans running 24/7/365 in addition to the AC. (I can't wait to see what the gas bill will be, I haven't had to pay for gas before that was always part of the rent & PGW just upped the rates)

I have a generator hooked up to a stationary bike and I can run a 20,000 BTU air conditioner with it. When we don't run the A/C I sell electricity back to the power company,

Thats insanely cheap! Unreal.

Our electric bill was 132.00, and believe me its the hottest summer I can remember. There is no way we could afford anything over 2 hundred. I set the AC at 78 and its pretty comfortable. It really helped a lot putting extra insulation in the attic. Saved about fifty dollars a month.

I heard another one about people that have white roofs instead of the traditional black ones, it's supposed to save some on the cooling bill also. If I get time I'll see if I can find the article

I would think that's true angelwing. White reflects heat while black absorbs it.

Um, we did that with most of our roof, you can buy this stuff to put over your shingles that turns them white. Hasn't seemed to help to much, although I am sure it had to help some. Still seems hot as hell in the back of my house around 4 in the afternoon and the power bill hasn't reflected the change either, we also installed a side attic fan, that sucks out the hot air up there a few years ago. THAT did seem to help with keeping the house cooler during the day.

What electric bills? Where me and my family stay, it's all bills paid.

We live in Central Texas, house is about 1450 sq ft, and our bills in summer are anywhere from 130 - 150. Thermostat is kept on 73. It helped that we put in a completely new system 2 years ago, made a big difference.

1536 sq ft=$148. We keep thermostat at 76F. 18" blown in insulation in the lid. Brand new high efficiency Goodman HVAC system will pay for itself in 2-3 years. Previous system dated back into the 1970's with numerous repairs. Alot of the old HVAC systems are dinosaurs.....they suck up energy like there's no tomorrow!

Does your electric company offer a equal payment plan or am the only one here that uses it? My bill is a flat $90.00 payment every month with Progress Energy (60.00/mo with PSNC - natural gas). I think last year PSNC ending up owing me money at the end of the "cycle" and reduced the first bill of the new cycle.
