Need Some Prayers...Lost Another One...

Most times I keep quiet when things go wrong, but most times it is not associated with someone dying, either. I realize most here probably shun long distance dating (yes, I tend to be overcautious when it comes to things, so dont worry ;) ). But thats beyond the point.

My gf was informed earlier (around 11 pm EDT, October 8th, 2007) that her uncle has cancer. From what she said her mom relayed, the doc is only giving him a few weeks to live. At the time, information is sparse and her mother did not go into detail, but we both still have a pretty good idea of what type of cancer it is. She's going to be flying out to see him from roughly this Friday to next Wednesday, and would like some prayers for both her safe passage and her uncle. There is not much I can do, other than offer support in any way possible. I have lost an uncle to cancer and know pretty much what she is going through at the moment.

I'll try to keep updates as often as I hear something new, however, no guarentees. It's not like I'm going to be there and know every little thing that goes on and she'll be away from the computer the whole time, so I'll try my best to keep on top of things via phone.

Thanks in advance!

As a caregiver to a cancer patient (my wife)......I keep an open line to God. Prayer is the only thing that gets me through some days. You, Natalie and her Uncle will be in my prayers for the duration.

You are doing it right. Support her with all your heart, you can't change her feelings till she wants to. I just lost my parents within 1 year and my sisters have totally lost it. I am having to deal with their estates which give me a focus point. Prays to all.

Alright, I got some new info.

She flew out to Texas yesterday and got there safely. It is Throat Cancer, and it is Stage IV. She said she got to see him today, and that he has lost a lot of weight and that she is scared right now (I do not blame her at all). We both really wish I could be out there, but between school, parental concerns, and obviously money, that just will not be happening. I'll check in tomorrow night with her and see if anything new has happened. For now, I just hope she can sleep. -sigh-

Prayers on the way from this cancer survivor. Stage IV is hard to take, for the patient but also for the caregivers/family. It's terrible to watch a loved one suffer. Brunota, you just lend support as best you can since you can't be there in person. Sometimes just listening is what the patient or caregiver wants most. Just someone to listen and hold their hand (figuratively of course too).

My thoughts and prayers with all of you.

Sorry that I did not keep this thread updated.

She did return home safely. Her uncle was released from the hospital a few days later and was out of the hospital, feeling better, for quite a while...however, he has been readmitted to the hospital because he hasnt been feeling well for a few days and hasnt been keeping any food down like he was after he was let out. Her finals are coming up after Christmas Break and she has been stressed, so this is really the last thing she needs on her mind currenty...

Well, she was told around 4 am est that her uncle passed on. On Sunday he was brought home with help from the local Hospice, so we both knew it was only a matter of time. Earlier (Monday), her cousin texted her saying it looked like he had maybe only a few days left, so the sudden passing on was a shock for her. What a way to ring in the New Year...But she is happy knowing that he is no longer in pain.
