SATA drives

The hubby wants me to get a 500GB SATA drive for him(Western Digital), which I was going to, but then I saw the 1TB SATA drive (WD) on sale for $270 and got a raincheck for it as they sold out, but I was wondering, how good are they? We have a bunch of WD EIDE drives now, but he told me that the SATA is better than the EIDE drives.
So are they? I might get one for my PC as a Christmas present too, Western Digital. (Maxtors are crap for us)

SATA drives are faster . . . can't quite remember the exact numbers, but the read/write speeds on the disks themselves should be quicker, meaning that just about everything on the computer will be a bit more snappy. Not necessarily a huge amount so, but at times it will be noticeable. The SATA drives have been around for a while, and they're definately the next step in HDD technology. I'd say it's worth it.
And with you on the WD, it's either that or Seagate for me, nothing else.

Just make sure that your computer supports SATA drives. They are definitely worth the money from both a performance and capacity standpoint
