Who else here has a paid holiday tomorrow in celebration of MLK? I do, I do

Actually, I'd MUCH rather be working, I have SO much WORK to do PLUS...Pinetop PD FINALLY went HIGH tech!! I have a new cyanocrylate fuming chamber and a TON of evidence to process from a crime scene last night!

My wife (a teacher) and the kids are off.
I hope rush hour traffic is a little lighter than normal. I leave about lunch for Wichita Falls area to supervise some well work, but it looks like models threatening ice or snow for SPS a few days ago have backed off.

College is closed!

I'm glad too, since it's going to be frigid in the morning and there's still some snow on the ground from yesterday.

i'll be sure to go into the office tomorrow, even if just for an hour or so, since I do not celebrate the day

You don't think its right to celebrate the birthday of a man that advocated non-violent social justice? Things might have turned out better in this country if he had lived.

Why? If you have the day off, take it.

I do not celebrate those who protested against Vietnam, since my gradfather served for a year there

For crying out loud, Vietnam shouldn't be a reason to completely ignore the day or even to go to work on it when you could have the day off. You don't even have to celebrate, just go off and post war hawkish messages on message boards the whole day rather than work.
I'm opposed to the war in Iraq. Does this mean I'm someone worthy of being ignored or bashed?

MLK got peace and civil rights confused. It's an easy mix up. Not all of us that served agreed with our position in SE Asia.....never the less we served. I'm damn proud to see someone stand up and say it like was. Thanx Derek.

I can see where this thread is going. Sigh.
Back TO THE TOPIC, yes I do have today off. Not planning on doing anything, just sleepin' in.

I mentioned this thread to a long time friend. He told me that MLK was in Memphis to support garbage workers when he got killed. The garbage men worked today. The Post Office had the day off. It was an onsite joke with construction workers. Go figure?
