Like Japan and World War 2, any nation hosting US forces would likely be attacked.

Idiots. Why would they TELL people about this? Furthermore, why would they even tell people they were THINKING about this? Doesn't that seem like something they should keep to themselves?
The only problem is that shortly after the missiles are launched, assuming this happens not so far into the future, the US could potentially know. It depends on the surveillance of the PRC at that point. If the US knows about it before the missiles hit their targets, then very bad things could happen.
