Re: Tropical Storm Dean (pg.28) - Discussions, Analysis and Sats
Tracy,
If the storm does look like it will have a Flrodia impact, I'm sure your training will be at the least post-poned. I suggest driving up to it rather than flying, so if things do look like they will be bad for SW Florida, you can get the kids and Grandma to a safe place if need be.
Personally, I would suspect a storm to cross FL in the south and come out the west side. But it may not be known until late in the game whether it will cross at miami or cross at Cape Canaveral... if at all.
Advice is to watch the storm closely and keep plans tentatively. I suspect either the kids or you will not be staying were you currently intend to stay next week.

Yeah, I remember what I thought it was cool to experience a hurricane. But I was cured of that by Camille at age 7. Now at 44, after Katrina, I don't want anyone to get hit. I think maybe we should all chip in and rent a boat for those who want the experience, and we can put them in the middle of a fish storm when it happens.

Now if I lived in the islands or Puerto Rico, now is not the time to panic. Most of the islanders (I think) have storm shutters that can automatically lower during a storm. This thing is still days away. I'm not so sure that this will feel the weakness of a troph. It's far to the south, even more so than first thought, and is farther west than anticipated. Again, it's all about the timeing. I have a gut feeling that this thing may buzz right by Puerto Rico (north or south). The next 24 hrs are critical. Afterall, your "asking" a hurricane to hit a point over a thousand miles away.
I think you are extremely unaware of the socio-economic conditions of the majority of Puerto Rican residents. A strong storm will be devastating on that island.

Ahhh. A fresh new case of "wishcastingitis". Don't get me wrong, there probably is a lot of it going on in this forum, but few actually admit to it. Thanks for your honesty.

Andrew, in 1992, ramped up quickly, but kept moving west due to high pressure.terstorm1012 wrote:storms in nc, thanks for saying what needed to be said.
As for the rest I'm really surprised that the new model is so aggressive with Dean intensity wise. Wouldn't a storm that ramps up quickly be more inclined to move poleward?

Some good news for all:
1. Shear still taking a toll on this system.
2. Looking at satelite, cloud tops are warming.

Is that really good? It will develop soon or later...but the longer it takes the longer we wait for the WNW turn.

HUH? A nice CDO has developed directly over the LLC. It's still being affected by shear right now, however, that'll be changing over the next 24 - 48 hours.
