Thank you! 8-)

Z means Zulu.

6z means we have a fix at 0600zulu and 12z means we have a fix at 1200zulu
(zulu = GMT)

We went through Jeanne, Wilma, and Frances, too. I'll pass on that fun again (hopefully).

THAT is a very impressive QScat Image.

The new convection we are seeing is blowing up on the NE side and trying to wrap. Overall, despite the downturn in convection this afternoon, Dean continues to have an impressive structure.

i don't remember seeing increasing shear forecast for tonite (like that link clearly shows) i thought it was supposed to relax tonite , what is with that large pocket of 30plus mid level and probably upper easterlies ahead of it

good thing this is moving so fast or it would be ripped apart (would be a ton more relative shear)

looks like this thing wont get much chance to strengthen till thursday

Hooray! Something I can finally contribute to. I have found this converter helpful, Sunnyday.

that is a very impressive LLC for sure. Thing has the structure. If shear decreases with that structure, RI is likely

You think they will bump the winds to 40-45kts at 11?

The 18Z GFDL intensity guidance is back on board with an intensifying hurricane at the end of the forecast period...104 knots at 35M...so that puts surface winds almost exactly on the NHC 5PM forecast.

I think the "worry" everyone is having about seeing Dean dissipate will fade when the 0Z UKMET doesnt drop the system...]

Derek, thank you for the info. I was starting to think we'd see the HE'S DEAD JIM posts.

The shear you see is a result of the storm itself. It will propetually (sp?) be ahead of the storm and wont affect it. This is the reason why TC's tend not to form close together. The environment is improving

Anyone know why the HWRF is showing 91L and not Dean?

I'd say slow and steady strengthening. Nothing sudden like 91L (TD5/Erin) could do, but it could be a formidable hurricane by the time it reaches the islands...
