Erin is a warm core low so right now she is inhibiting the high pressure from moving the UUL its going to be a game of timing the models i don't think have picked up on the slowness of the ULL moving out the ULL is supposed to be moving ahead of DEAN in order for all the model stuff to pan out i expect to see Dean gain some northly aspect until the remants from Erin stop effecting the high thats supposed to move the ULL out ... just my 2 cents

Thank you so much to everyone out there who are sending so many messages of support and hope. At the moment here it is very still.
The night animals are just making their usual chirpy noises. Our dogs are lying on the mat and it is as if nothing is happening. The stars are even shining it definitely is the lull before the storm.
For folks in the States who have students at the medical colleges. We are sure they will take every precaution and be safe. Please don't worry too much as we really are used to hurricanes in the Caribbean. That's the price we all pay to live in Paradise.
We will keep you up dated until we feel it is necessary to turn the generator off, remember we still have no electricity! Courtesy of Domlec coming up with so many different quotations. We will accept the lowest one which they first came up with!! TEEE HEE we have to be light hearted!
By the way I am going to bed with the chainsaw beside

I am aware major hurricanes are not a joking matter seeing that I live on Galveston bay, I meant nothing hurtful by my post. please forgive me, and to you and your family, please stay safe, God speed.

I'm confused. Did you make an offensive post somewhere? If so, I'm not aware of it. I don't know if a Mod saw it and removed it before I could read it.

BTW, the weather here is quite unremarkable right now. It's overcast but earlier I observed a few stars. All in all, things are very quiet.

One of our meteorologists said that the airport recorded a gust of 50 mph a few hours ago. Other than that, there's nothing of note to mention.

I suspect tomorrow morning might be a different story when we get the back end of this thing.

I think the only time this storm slows down is whenever it makes a turn. The tradewinds are so strong where it's at right now. Maybe the western carribbean.

Rita like craziness on the horizon for the Houston-Galveston. I am not looking forward to what could very be coming. It looking more and more Dean will be in the S Central GOM when the ridge weakens.

KatDaddy i think the craziness has already started. I was in my local HEB picking up a few items for dinner, and just happened to pass by the isle where the bottle water is stocked and the shelves were empty. I asked an employee did they move the water to another isle, the guy smiled and said no we're just out.

Went to Kroger this afternoon, and all the bottled water was gone.

My sister lives on Dominica in
the mountain area about an
hour or so outside of Roseau.
I called her last nite to give
warning and to pay attention---
she figured she would get some
weather but wasn't too ooncerned.
Today when I spoke with her
she was now very concerned!
She drove into Roseau for
supplies and said it was chaos!
Everyone running around also
getting supplies and loudspeakers announcing that
this is not a drill or practice
but to take this Hurricane
seriously!
They were to expect the worst
between midnite and 6 a.m.

When David went thru Dominica
in 1979 it did serioius damage
so here's hoping for the
best outcome---maybe it will
slip between Martinique and
Dominica as has happened before.

If it slows down know that the ULL is having an affect and then a more Northerly component. I agree with several other posters that the ULL isn't moving away very fast and Dean is catching up. What does all this mean, I think we'll know more after the NOAA jet does its job.

ONE island is gonna get nailed (unfortunately), that is all. The storm's hurricane windfield is 30 miles wide at most, about the same as Charley's. People here get the misconception that all the Antilles are gonna take it on the chin, and they are not, not at all. Someplace will be unlucky, but 40 miles to the north and south will fine. Not to mention, it's foward speed. The duration of HF winds will be short lived. Dean is coming in almost perpendicular to the chain, another plus allowing less islands to be impacted. No big deal, everyone will be fine.

I think you misread the posts. You (Houston) did get spared. But not all of SE TX did, which was KatDaddy's original reference ("all of us SE TX posters"). It was meant as a little joke to my friend, KatDaddy, who truly does know what all of us went through over here during Rita, but thanks for making my point. lol

Bay City and Baytown are two completely different cities.

Bay City is 100 miles South-Southwest of Houston.
