Do keep in mind that the ULL was never forecast to begin moving by the models until tomorrow or Saturday. We will see what happens then and if it begins to move.

Either way though, I believe it may have some sort of effect on Dean. Possibly trying to draw it north slightly sooner than expected?

Hey Houstonia I hear you. We have been very very lucky over the years. I was just discussing our plans with my wife. Basically getting ready for storm mode. In reality if Dean hits late Wednesday or early Thursday, mass evacuations would begin Monday......two days out like for Rita. Thats not very long. I need to get propane tomorrow. We have plenty of food and batteries.

Y'all in League City really do need to leave early - first all the traffic from Houston and let's face it.. you're sort of ground zero as far as flood zones...

Fortunately, Sharpstown is high and dry...

Pearl River, i actually just responded to your statement in the other thread a couple of minutes ago. I also hope some pros or other guys with a lot more knowledge give their opinions. I noticed a couple of other posters from the north gom seem to becoming a little more alarmed also.

Has anyone been able to point out what happened with the reports?

The problems with this aircraft were Satellite Communication problems with the flight meteorologist (ARWO). Ground stations at KNHC, KBIX and TISX could not gather any data from the aircraft. We know this because we trouble shooted all locations and all computers/modems worked correctly. It was an aircraft malfunction.... not problems with the recordings!

glad to hear things are calm right now. Have to add that the radio station on the cbc tv site is the best!

A special feature on DEAN is due to be broadcast on the TV station at the top of the hour. Stay tuned! (There'll probably be a simulcast on the radio station.)

That was a non tasked mission. It is probably the NHC sending out planes from the mainland getting ready to travel in to Dean

This is the aircraft that landed here at TISX from KBIX.. they will be the 3rd AF aircraft to go into Dean. This RECCO was only to make sure the onboard computers were working... the aircraft that was flying thru Dean was having problems... it was just precautionary and part of the ARWOs duties onboard to push out a RECCO during any over water flights.

Thanks extreme, I misunderstood. I thought it was supposed to be following right on Erin's heels. I guess if it doesn't start moving west until sat. that would give it more of a potential impact on Dean's future track as by then he will be well into the Carib.

No. The aircraft couldn't communicate with the ground stations... KNHC IS a ground station.

Just got home from Home Depot and let me tell you, Houstonians are making me proud! There were 4 people ahead of us in the check out line with plywood. The hurricane is the talk of the town here in The Woodlands. Batteries are just about sold out (it was huge selection) and a truck brought in 10 palets of plywood today. People are taking this seriously!

Something crossed my mind and I want to share it with everybody...everybody on the coast that is...

The one thing you must remember when preparing for a hurricane is to not only board up your windows, but you GARAGE too! The reason why roofs fail and blow away is because wind got inside the house and usually the garage door (the weakest point of the house) failed and when the wind got in, it had no place to go but up! PLEASE...don't forget your garage door!

I was watching a channel on tv called Texas Cable News, and they were reporting that Dallas and Fort Worth are preparing for potential refugees, and that supplies of gasoline were being transported to the major evacuation routes like I-10 and I-45 as we speak. Large supplies of water were also en route to the coast, and the Red Cross was preparing. It sounds like Texas will be a lot better prepared if worse comes to worse.

Thanks EWG. I was just looking at the 120hr 0z GFS and the 500mb shows the ULL near the upper Texas coast.
