He is talking about the actual recon into Dean this afternoon not the Gulfstream sampling outside the storm.

The problems with this aircraft were Satellite Communication problems with the flight meteorologist (ARWO). Ground stations at KNHC, KBIX and TISX could not gather any data from the aircraft. We know this because we trouble shooted all locations and all computers/modems worked correctly. It was an aircraft malfunction.... not problems with the recordings!
Did the NHC get the data?
No. The aircraft couldn't communicate with the ground stations... KNHC IS a ground station.

When I went on a cruise through the islands, Dominca was one of the stops. It was the only island I didn't tour. I did tour St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Martinique and Barbados. It truly is paradise down there!

Large supplies of water were also en route to the coast, and the Red Cross was preparing. It sounds like Texas will be a lot better prepared if worse comes to worse.

It got suddenly dark about an hour ago and then came some major rain and probably 40 - 50 mph gusts for about 20 minutes. Driving from the office there are already downed trees and debris along the way. It hasn't stopped raining but the winds have died for now. Lightening accompanied with thunder started about 20 minutes ago.
Will keep posting as long as there's elec. and internet service.

Agree. Please, no one needs to get offended, but I would ask the moderators, if possible, to create another thread which discusses the preparations in the US for the possible approach of Dean so we can focus to what is happening with the storm.

That is nice but interesting after some of the comments that have come from Dallas govt in the past couple of years
