This is easily a mid-level tropical storm. 50-60 mph

It seems the faster movement towards the northeast is causing the wind shear to have a lesser effect on the system because it's looking better than ever:

As expected, 35 kt. Looks good but will soon start becoming extratropical... unless Chantal pulls an Epsilon.

Agreed. My attention is quickly turning to 99L and I'm about ready to forget this one.

and this was defintely NOT a test invest.

I disagree. Over the past two mornings the system has looked better than the day before. The difference now is the well-defined LLC. I think tomorrow morning we could see more convection near the system which could cause it to be upgraded.

Nonetheless, 99L should be taken more seriously since it poses a threat to land.

Wow what a shock  All that talk yesterday about slow development. I guess all of the people who gave it a slim chance of becoming Chantal are enjoying their crow for breakfast

I'd love to see Chantal pull and Epsilon and loop around south, hanging out for a few days. That's virtually impossible, though. But I'm fine with this.

Will we get a tropical storm warning for Newfoundland out of this? Or will it eek into the extra-tropical stage before it gets there?

Well ... it was always a race between development and extratropical transition for me. Looks like development won.
