Haven't seen anything higher than 21 knots flight level. Or did I miss something?

Neither have I. I don't know what people are seeing that I'm missing.

I'm just reading the non-detailed reports coming from the plane. Observation 7 at 1758Z had a FL wind of 240/18kts and an estimated surface wind 220/25 kts. Plane was at 11.3N/58.2W. Pressure 1011mb.

Ah, OK.

Entirely possible to have higher winds at the surface than at flight level in a system this incompletely organized.

They should have redirected the training mission to 96L.

I was taking a jab at Accuweather, who for the last three hours have had a graphic up saying this has a central pressure of 988mb.

Accuweather is becoming the JTWC of the Atlantic. Unfortunately the JTWC does a much better job. Nevertheless, nothing says Accuweather can't do it, or you, or me.

The JTWC is semi-official (best described as a #2 source - JMA is the official source) being a NOAA agency.
