TWC Kevin said the winds aren't making it to the surface with Gabrielle. 20% reduction or more with this weird storm. It isn't intensifying or boosting over the Gulf Stream.

Rain is being dried up by dry air slot to west of system over North Carolina.

Maybe they should issue TWC bikinis? No, cancel that, I don't want to see TOO much of Jim Cantore. They'll get a few squalls this afternoon, though. But this one of those storms where you just walk inside when you see it coming and wait a few hours for it to pass.

Not a bad day on the beach. :grrr: 8-) Then why are they covering it if nothing is happening?

Just because it is not ripping off roofs or causing major flooding this is still a weather event and they are The Weather Channel.

Rain bands are few and far between, but I'm thankful for what we are getting!

sun shinning here, light breeze, humid as heck ... was in greenville just over hour ago, major downpour - but just west of town is the armpit of eastern NC - rain avoids it here.

I see something significant on satellite now. Squalls south of Gabrielle are weakening and really struggling to move inland. Basically, Gabrielle's LLC is separating from those squalls. Sorry, Outer Banks, you may not get too much rain out of this. But look 130nm NE of the center and you'll see new convection firing. I think this is a sign of changing winds aloft and an impending NE turn. Convection should shift to the eastern side of Gabrielle this evening as it begins accelerating out to sea.

Oh yeah you can pretty easily see the LLC way off t othe north of the convection, which seems to have slowed down its foward movement quite a lot. Looks like its probably weakened a little because of outrunning the convection.

In other words, this could be a rainfall dud for NC and VA altogether then. The rain would have come in handy down there.

Gabrielle has changed quite a bit in the past 15 hours. I notice more of a comma.

In this case Gabrielle is a tropical low with convection being blown to the south of the circulation.

With Recon finding 66 kt at flight level, I'd say Gabrielle (in whatever form) is 50 kt right now, maybe 55 kt.
