the comparison between the 2 images is not valid. They are not equal in scale The Katrina map is much smaller than the TC9B map

The size difference doesn't really seem that great:

Sidr

Katrina

Note: these are the smaller 2k scale versions, so they won't crash your browser or anything.

the image of Sidr looks exaggrated as you can see Katrina was a very large storm with an eye 30 miles wide it created its own exaust system it didn't need the jet stream Sidr looks like a yoyo with that long exaust pipe

Wish we could get impact reports. The worst is happening right now.

The latest is the storm has hit hard on the Bangaldesh coast after changing its course a bit from West Bengal,India. In West Bengal the Sagar Island and the Sunderbans are hit but not with the same intent as its being hit in the Sunderbans of Bangladesh and the other coastal areas. At the moment its passing through Barisal and Khulna in Bangladesh. Its started raining in Gangetic West Bengal already.

I'm able to adjust the scale of my Sidr satellite image to match the scale of some saved Katrina images. Really, Sidr isn't too much smaller than Katrina. The cirrus shield is nearly the same size. The area of TS-force winds was just a little larger with Katrina. And the core of strongest winds may have been about 25-50 miles larger with Katrina. Measurements were taken when Katrina was a Cat 5 on Sunday, August 28th.

One other potential risk could be inland flooding and mudslides...it becomes mountainous quickly once out of Bangladesh...

I'm not aware of any eclipse period this time of year, but here's the latest image I have. It's from 1730Z. We get images every 2 hours for free. Costs money for more frequent images. Sidr is definitely (was) less organized at 1730Z. The center was about 80 miles SW of Dhaka at that time.

Hmm, if it's every 2 hours, that explains why there haven't been any new images since then (it' s 1955 UTC right now).

The 1930Z image comes out between 20Z and 2030Z. It may be another 15-30 minutes.

Any indications of what the storm surge might have been? Like, a report from the BBC team or something?

We could get them every 30 minutes if we paid for them, but we don't do much work in Asia so we have no need for more frequent imagery at this time. Still waiting on the 1930Z image to arrive...

Sidr seems to have passed over the Ganges delta. Convection is drying up fairly rapidly.
