225 kilometres west northwest of Alyangula and
270 kilometres west southwest of Nhulunbuy and
moving east at 31 kilometres per hour.

EX-TROPICAL CYCLONE Helen continues to move steadily east across Arnhem Land and
may redevelop into a Tropical Cyclone on Sunday once it moves into the Gulf of
Carpentaria.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are expected to affect coastal and
island communities between Nhulunbuy and Port Roper, including Groote Eylandt,
on Sunday.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are expected to develop between
Weipa and Karumba late Sunday.

GALES may develop along the coast between Port McArthur in the Northern
Territory and Karumba in Queensland on Monday.

Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding of low lying areas over the eastern Top
End.

A Cyclone WARNING is now current for coastal and island communities from NT/Qld
Border to Thursday Island.

At 10:00 am EST [9:30 am CST] An intense tropical low, Ex-Tropical Cyclone
Helen, with central pressure 993 hectopascals was centred near latitude 13.0
south and longitude 139.0 east which is 315 kilometres west of Weipa.

The system is moving east at 43 kilometres per hour and is expected to
re-intensify into a tropical cyclone by 9pm EST.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Helen poses an IMMEDIATE THREAT to coastal and island
communities from Thursday Is to Kowanyama.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Helen, with gusts up to 90 km/h should cross the coast
between Weipa and Kowanyama.
GALES have developed over large areas of the gulf and may extend to areas
between Thursday Island and the QLD/NT border.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Helen poses a threat to coastal and island communities from

Ex-tropical Cyclone Helen may redevelop into a category one cyclone before
crossing the coast overnight or early Monday morning. Wind gusts up to 90 km/h

Abnormally high tides and large waves are expected to continue along the eastern

CIRCULATION CENTER WITH FLARING DEEP CONVEECTION ON THE NORTHERN
SEMICIRCLE. A 060225Z QUIKSCAT PASS SHOWS TIGHT TROUGHING. A 069031Z
AMSU PASS ALSO SHOWS EVIDENCE OF THIS TIGHT TROUGHING AND FLARING
CONVECTION. DEVELOPMENT IS CURRENTLY BEING HAMPERED BY MODERATE

Issued at 11:01pm on Sunday the 6th of January 2008

A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal and island communities from Gilbert
River Mouth to Weipa.

The Cyclone Warning between Mornington Island and Gilbert River Mouth has been
CANCELLED.

At 10:00 pm EST Ex-Tropical Cyclone Helen with central pressure 995
hectopascals was centred near latitude 13.9 south and longitude 140.9 east which
is 60 kilometres west of Cape Keerweer and 195 kilometres north northwest of
Kowanyama.

The system is moving east-southeast at 7 kilometres per hour.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Helen may redevelop into a category one cyclone before
crossing the coast overnight or early Monday morning. Wind gusts up to 90 km/h
may develop between Weipa and Gilbert River Mouth.

Large waves are expected to continue along the eastern Gulf coast.

A Severe Weather Warning is current for the western Peninsula coast north of
Weipa and the Torres Strait islands for damaging waves and abnormally high
tides.

Issued at 2:04am on Monday the 7th of January 2008

The Cyclone Warning for coastal and island communities from Gilbert River Mouth
to Weipa is CANCELLED.

At 1:00 am EST Ex-Tropical Cyclone Helen with central pressure 998 hectopascals
was centred near latitude 13.9 south and longitude 141.3 east which is 16
kilometres west of Cape Keerweer and 180 kilometres north northwest of
Kowanyama.

The system is moving east at 7 kilometres per hour.

Ex-tropical Cyclone Helen is now near Cape Keerweer on the western Peninsula
coast. The system is no longer expected to re-develop into a tropical cyclone
before making landfall.

A Severe Weather Warning remains current for the western Peninsula coast north
of Cape Keerweer and the Torres Strait Islands, for damaging waves, abnormally
high tides, locally damaging wind squalls and heavy rainfall.

This is the final tropical cyclone advice. The system will continue to be
monitored.

This warning is also available through TV and Radio Broadcasts; the Bureau's
website at http://www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 212. The Bureau and the State
Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
