Annular Solar Eclipse October 14 2023

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there is a "dry run" on Oct. 14th of this year. Almost the same parts of Texas will experience a near-total annular eclipse. I'll be heading out to Kerrville for that one.

I'm curious how dim the darkened annular eclipse will be relative to a total eclipse (perhaps 90%?). Any idea how many minutes/seconds the annular max is anticipated to last?

I think that the moon will cover about 98% of the sun, lasting for 4-5 minutes in Texas. I saw the 1984 annular eclipse where over 99% of the sun was covered. Couldn't really make out any sun around the edge of the moon. Should be an amazing sight next October. I'll be traveling to a friend's house in Kerrville, which is just off the center line.

The green line is the center line of the eclipse. It marks the longest duration of the annular eclipse.
