I hadn't been born yet during that earthquake but surely it was the worst disaster in San Salvador's history and one of the worst for the country, Downtown San Salvador was never the same after that as several buildings were destryed by the erathquake, now most of the important buildings are in other parts pf the city but downtown. One important thing to know is that may buildings and homes were already damaged by a 6.5 magnitude in 1965 and another 7.0 magnitude in 1982 but the lack of a true construction policy at the time was responsible for ignoring the damages in the constructions.

Another earthquake swarm has developed in La Union near the Gulf of Fonseca, earlier this year was another one near the same location. 12 Earthquakes have been felt since the swarm began on November 20, additionally 2 more earthquakes have occurred in San Salvador and 2 more in the subduction zone offshore. The most recent eruptions were from San Miguel (2002) and Santa Ana (2005).
San Miguel and Conchagua (no confirmed historical eruptions) are near the swarm location.

Yes there's Conchagua volcano in there (thanks for the map) although the seismologists say that the cause are local fault lines and not directly related to Conchagua. Since the swarm began 1623 quakes have been registered in the area but "only" 49 have been felt, the last one occurred on December 19 and had a magnitude of 3.2, and intensity of III in El Carmen and it was 4.5 km deep. Fortunately the number of quakes per day has diminished significantly in the last couple of weeks.

This is a map that shows the 6 quakes in the volcano, you can clearly see the crater. There are cities to the southwest, south, southeast, east (the capital) and northeast of the volcano.
