Soufriere Hills Volcano

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sun Dec 20, 2009 8:49 am

This volcano located in the Eastern Caribbean has been active once again in the past few months after a quiet period since it made a big eruption in 1995.Lets follow what is going on with the volcano here. For the members who may not know where is this volcano located in the Eastern Caribbean,it is between the butterfly island of Guadeloupe and ST Kitts. There is a web cam pointing to the Soufriere Volcano, and also there are several satellite floaters with loops at the links below.

Good morning
We have very hazy skies here today and I believe it is from the volcano.
Here is the most recent graphic from NOAA and it has the ash going right over us and Anguilla.
I believe I can smell a slight sulfur smell also, but I am not sure.

latest statement from our local Met Office:

Special Features: There are ongoing ash emissions from the Soufrière Hills Volcano in Montserrat. The Southeasterly wind flow at lower levels of the atmosphere may cause the volcanic ash to move over the islands. Volcanic ash has been already reported today to cause a drop in visibility, the density of the ash cloud will be of light to moderate.

I heard that yesterday at around 6 PM the Jet Blue flight from here to Boston was canceled due to volcanic ash.
Poor passengers got another night in paradise :-)

And LIAT and Winair have both announced possible flight schedule interruptions.
