The airport of Le Raizet Guadeloupe, is always close. We have a water outage for hours in my locality due to the drought and maybe people who want to clean their car, garden due to the ash in my humble opinion. The Carnival of the chidren expected this afternoon is canceled too, troubles ahead today in Guadeloupe. Let's hope that the things will improve quickly... :)

any reports this morning on the ash? we have sunny but very hazy conditions here this morning.
I assume there is ash in the air causing the haze.
hope things are Ok in Guadeloupe.

It's not good in Guadeloupe Msbee, many things have been cancelled, schools are closed as the airport, no water in some localities due the drought and the effects of the ash are contributing to deteriorate a worrying situation. The best way to clean the ash is to use water, and many friends in Guadeloupe told me that numerous water outages are becoming frequent.
Let's hope that things should begin to improve at least this afternoon.

From this morning's discussion by NWS San Juan.

.AVIATION...EXPECT PREVAILING VFR CONDS ACROSS THE LOCAL FLYING
AREA...AND ALL LOCAL TERMINAL AERODROMES TODAY. HOWEVER...SOME
FINELY SUSPENDED PARTICULATES OF VA FROM THE MONTSERRAT VOLCANO AT
TRPG...WILL DRIFT NORTHWEST ACROSS ALL OR PARTS OF THE FLYING AREA...
AS WNDS BECOME MORE SOUTHEASTERLY TODAY. WHILE MUCH OF THE VA IS
EXPECTED TO QUICKLY DISPERSE AS IT MOVES FURTHER AWAY FROM ITS
SOURCE UNLESS THERE IS ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT ERUPTION...THE ONGOING
EMISSIONS WILL BE STEERED ACROSS THE LOCAL FLYING AREA OVER THE NEXT
24 HOURS OR SO BASED ON THE PRESENT WIND FLOW. FOR NOW DECIDED TO
INCLUDE VA IN TAF SITES TJPS AND TISX UNTIL 13/12Z...AS SAT IMAGERY
SUGGESTED HIGHEST CONCENTRATION MOV ACROSS THOSE AREAS AT THIS
TIME. ALL AVIATION INTERESTS SHOULD PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO LATEST
TAF FCST AN UPDATES...AS WELL AS ADVISORIES AND SIGMETS.

are you seeing ash, Luis?
what does your above post actually mean in terms of flights? will flights be canceled, do you think?
we have hazy skies again this mornign.
and I believe some people here are reporting light ash on cars, boats, etc.
very mild though.
I wonder how Gusty is doing.

Thanks Barbara :) we appreciate your wink!
Here is the situation in Guadeloupe. Our airport is always close, flights have been canceled this morning, some could be ok for tonight but we're waiting for an update at 10 am to confirm or not if the airport will be open this afternoon. But from the journalists of the radio the chances are very low, so we keep our fingers crossed for a possible issue tommorow. We have always ash, pretty modest amount but i have always very thin ash on my car on the ground, etc. It's very difficult to clean because the water is pretty rare! Everybody wanted to clean quickly theirs homes and consequently numerous water outages continue to be frequent this morning in some localities, i have no water since 8 AM! Troubles ahead for the Carnival today due to the quality of the air, etc. We have to wait and see how the things evolves during the day, but numerous citizens are very nervous as they wanted to see the Carnival today in spite of this special ash episode!

Gusty, I hope the people in Guadeloupe will be careful. Jumping up for carnival in poor air quality probably isn't a good idea.
It does look like from the latest NOAA graphic that the ash is movign WNW, away from you, so I hope things improve for you later today.
and I hope the ash does not affect PR and Luis too much.

Absolutely Barbara you're 100% right, and that's the fact for the Carnival! People are so excited and frustated this year, because of the ash episode and the big strike of the LKP last year (the Carnival was cancelled at this same periode). Let's pray because... i can assume you that the citizens are very very nervous, let's hope that the organisators can take the best decision at least today. I hope that too Luis does not suffer too much from this ash, you too Msbee. Thanks for all my friend, i will try to keep you informed as usual.

yes, please keep us informed.

Our latest met forecast says this:
"Special Features: There are ongoing emissions of ashes and gas at the Soufriere Hills volcano in Montserrat. According to the forecasted wind direction, the volcanic ash will be spreading in northwesterly direction and will gradually reduce the visibility on the SSS islands."

Bad news for us in Guadeloupe. In a last update given ours journalists of RCI Guadeloupe, the airport is close until tommorow morning! Two reasons: first the persistence of the ash in the air second the troubles of wateroutages due to the lack of water to clean the airport because of the underconsommation of water by the citizens! Looks like that concerning the Carnival, the show must go on this afternoon in spite of the ash risk :roll. Let's hope that things will be ok during the next few hours...

so sorry to hear that Gusty
hope that people are careful and safe during carnival, considering everything.
I hear that here we have had several flight cancellations from the USA today due to the ash.
on top of that, we are being attacked by large swells from the NW, which is causing severe beach erosion and apparently caused 2 cruise ships to cancel out today.
Mother Nature is sure having her fun with all of us , isn't she?
