Unbelievable! It's aproaching the 2004 Asian tsunami death toll with the difference that the tsunami deaths were registered in several countries and these earthquake's deaths are reproted only in one small country

212,000 is around 2% of Haiti's total population.

This statistic probably what is the most incredible about this disaster. Measuring the % of the population that lost their lives is one way to weigh the level of catastrophe and this one is near off the charts folks. I remember doing the same after Cyclone Nargis in May of 2008 and only around <0.002% of Myanmar's total population was gone.
