Its all connected to the big Caribbean plate that Soufriere is a small part.

Small 2.5 tremor in western Puerto Rico mainland.Yes small, not out at sea but on land.

There has been plenty of seismic activity around Puerto Rico / Virgin Islands in the past few days but the intensity has been in the 2.5-3.8 range.

There were 222 quakes in and around Puerto Rico in March. :eek:

Not really, over a 12 month period we can expect an average of 17 MM7.0+ shocks with a range from 6 to 32. For the 12 month period ending April 14th there have been 18 MM7.0+ shocks globally.

On the VEI scale (or any other scientific scale) how does the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull compare to that of Soufiere a few months ago?

Cycloneye, How long ago was the last big earthquake in Puerto Rico? I'm thinking of taking a cruise out of San Juan next Feb and would like to know......MGC
