Guatemala's Volcan de Fuego Eruption-September 13 2012

Yet another significant geological event has occurred in Central America. Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala started a moderate to dtrong eruption this morning. Ashfall, pyroclastic flows and lava flows have been registered. The ahs cloud reached a height of 1500 meters above the crater and at least 10 000 people have been evacuated from nearby areas. No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

ESCUINTLA, Guatemala (AP) — A long-simmering volcano exploded into a series of powerful eruptions outside one of Guatemala's most famous tourist attractions on Thursday, hurling thick clouds of ash nearly two miles (three kilometers) high, spewing rivers of lava down its flanks and prompting evacuation orders for more than 33,000 people from surrounding communities.
