How close to that volcano do you live and are you worried that you will need to leave?

No, I don't actually live in that area, I just went there because of my job. Now I'm back in Manila..
My hometown is in Tagaytay City- about 60 km south of Manila.
Tagaytay City overlooks Taal Volcano, which is also showing signs of unrest - Alert level 1 by PHIVOLCS. It's a "DECADE VOLCANO"

Hopefully, it won't be a repeat of 2006. (Mayon eruption followed by Super Typhoon Durian)

That event killed approximately a thousand people. Volcanic materials mixed with rainwater from Typhoon Durian slid down the steep slope of Mayon and buried the unfortunate victims...
Typhoon Durian also holds the official Philippine record for wind gust @ 320 kph (the instrument conked out after it was recorded)...

Is this activity connected in some way to the 6.7 quake we had yesterday?

Bad that Typhoon Hagupit flooded this area but likely did not repeat Durian 2006

After 4 years of calm, Mayon volcano is again showing significant signs of unrest.

PHIVOLCS just raised the alert level from 3 to 4 (meaning a hazardous eruption is possible within hours to days) after a big ash explosion occured this morning. Ash column reportedly reached 3 km in height.

I wonder what this will mean for the WPAC season. The Pacific Rim of Fire with Mayon and the recent +8.0 earthquake in Alaska.

Probably not much unless there is dust pushed into the stratosphere
