We are getting 70-80mph gusts EASY here in south BR. My neighbors fence is gone and another neighbor has a major limb on top of his house. It's very nasty here guys.

I'll be able to post until the cox communications goes out. I am sure it will go eventually. Our power did. Thankfully we've got the generator!

hang on my Lafayette comrades! We're in for a blow!

Baton Rouge getting pounded right now. It looks like the storm jogged north and is giving them a little more punch than thought earlier this morning. 70mph gusts within the last hour or so at the airport which is north of the city. I suspect its worse in BR proper and the southern metro area is getting the northern eyewall right now.

I think Houston can get some rain from Gustav later tonight. I am seeing more clouds from Gustav.

Yeah it's crazy out here. This eye is kicking our butts. no sooner than I typed about my neighbors house I'm having big limbs falling on my from the oak above me. I hope no major damage but I can't go outside and check. The winds are stupid (my best guess is 80+ gusts now with around 50 sustained. This is a pure estimate.

Looks like the northern eye wall is at New Iberia right now, almost at LaFayette. Baton Rouge is getting pretty much hammered right now as well, judging by radar and rain totals. The dry air is starting to really get into the bands.

Acadiana Regional Airport had a gust of 60+ recorded. I work over there. Just made a call to one of my coworkers and got his voicemail. Waiting for some updates from New Iberia.

500,000 homes without power in South Louisiana!

It does appear from radar that Gustav has two eyewalls now. The outer one is just about at Lafayette, on the left side where the winds should be less.

NHC says sustained winds still at 105 with gusts of 135 possible.

WDSU is showing damage to some homes (New Orleans lakeshore?), some of the damage is quite extreme. Tree on a house, a windows fully blown out, street lights down, etc.

We got power back, but I think next time we lose it that would be it!

it seems that Baton Rouge is actually getting a bit worse than Lafayette at this point because they are in the northeast quadrant.

On the brighter side of news, oil prices reached a 4-month low despite Gustav.

Also, Gustav is now Category 1 according to CNN.
