A plot of the recon fixes from last night through this morning clearly show a movement to the WNW. If it stayed on the heading the fixes show with no further turn NW it would go in Near Matagorda.

HA I didn't even know there was a third floater. I kept looking on ONE and TWO and wondering why they were not on Ike. Are there more than three? (Apparently there are four, at least that you can access from the GOES site)

yes weunice..think this zoomed floater as is a special for IKE, hope they use it for future storms..not that i'm wanting any for you guys stateside..i've got 2 floaters on plus storm2k plus live khou coverage and my heads fuzzy :double:

Just a reminder that the NHC is issuing audio briefings on Ike every few hours. Just click the link at the top of the NHC page.

I am not believing the reporters are on the seawall...

Also...looks like people are cruising the seawall road. Lots of cars moving on the interstates too. I am surprised people are not getting hunkered down, as opposed to lollygagging around town. Hopefully all these cars I am seeing on interstates on TV are people finishing last minute shopping for supplies.

From the Houston Chronicle's Web site:

Huge waves littering Seawall Blvd. with debris
As the sun rose over Galveston Island, waves crashed with a frightening intensity and speed, a presage of what can be expected as Hurricane Ike closes in on the Texas coast.
Trash and debris, lodged in the rocks along the seawall, has come loose with the force of the waves. Some items have shot over the seawall and into the westbound lanes of the five-lane Seawall Boulevard.
The few cars traversing the road are weaving to dodge the debris.
Walking along the seawall sidewalk now is almost impossible because of the strength and frequency of the waves.

That black IR burst is energy. It will either go into wind with an intensification up to category 3 or water in the form of pushing surge.

Dry air is still to the NW quadrant so I assume this one will also struggle like Gus with organization and possibly not attain the worst of the category 4 wind predictions which is GOOD for Texas.

The black IR burst is Ike shouting I'm trying to get going. Best deep cold tops in its history right off Texas.

Ike might actually make it to having an eye at the last friggin' moment.

Gustav did too, but it fell apart quickly as he left the warmer waters...

Ike's winds cover an area larger than that of Katrina, the storm that devastated New Orleans in 2005, said Jeff Masters, director of meteorology at private forecaster Weather Underground Inc.

"The total amount of energy is more powerful than Katrina, so we could be seeing a storm surge that could rival Katrina,'' he said yesterday. Ike is so big the location doesn't matter much. It is going to inundate a huge part of the Texas coast.''

The first thing I wanted to see is a feed of SeaWall Blvd. Do you have a link or is this on television?

Thanks,

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but an oil rig reported 125 mph winds at 6:45!

Yeah, it's been mentioned. Even though it is elevated a fair bit it just shows how dangerous this storm is.

AZRainman, wow the timings of high tide couldn't relaly be worse for Galveston if it tried, high tide just when the storm surge will be at its highest point, the city is going to get totally flooded I've few doubts now saldy, esp given the wave height a fair way before the 1st high tide already is lapping onto the road on the sea wall at times...

Awesome. Thanks for the link. If water is coming over RIGHT NOW... I'd hate to see what is in store for landfall.
