DON'T WIND SURF IN A TROPICAL STORM. The question was how stupid can people be ... indeed.

Does her eye or center have to actually be over the water for her to start picking up Atlantic water and start to regroup and restrengthen?

I agree I feel very sad for the windsurfer. We all have done stupid things and are not in critical condition. Pray he doesnt have head or spinal injuries

Wow, look at the convection build once it gets over the warm waters. If Fay continues moving E she will be over water in about 4 hours, IMO. Maybe the ridge will force her S, who the heck knows. What an interesting storm to follow.

I'm believing the east movement on radar. Pressure east of the last fix is dropping and winds increasing.
That's
Wynne Ranch Fl. Largest Brangus Breeder, Fort Pierce, FL
Brangus?

Not surprising to see an other right side erratic. GFDL again. Weird overland shadow double eyewall. Creeping towards the Gulf Stream closer to Ft Pierce.
Wind was actually stronger today at the causeway high bridge at least 25 knots steady NW. You could see Fay's upper disk pull away to the NE.
Saw a big 6-7 foot ocean fish snap out of the water chasing prey. Probably a tarpon.
Later tonight should be interesting as Fay senses the Gulf Stream.

Been keeping up with this thread for about a week now and decided to join in.
So is Fay actually attempting to stay relatively close to the projected path? Just wondering because we (Valdosta, GA) could use the rain, but at the same time 35mph+ wind seems to amazingly bring down trees around here.

Totally agree, no it was not the smartest of decisions on his part but what's done is done and calling him stupid while he's lying in critical condition doesn't really help now does it?cpdaman wrote:Harry Cane wrote:Slightly off topic, but how stupid can people be?

Also don't forget the emergency personnel who had to respond to this foolishness. By deciding to be an adrenaline junkie this guy not only risked his life but the life of the EMT's.
IMHO, this guy and the hundreds and hundreds of wind surfers are all potential Darwin Award winners.

It scares me to think of what she may do when she gets back over water...Especially since she is supposed to come double back. Talk about Deja Vu!!!

Excerpt from Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel coverage...sounds like we didn't see worst of it because final impact was out of camera range...maybe a little prayer or good thoughts for this guy and his family between wobbles would be a good thing.
FORT LAUDERDALE - A kite surfer remained in critical condition at Broward General Medical Center today after he took on the winds of Tropical Storm Fay and lost.
Kevin Kearney's accident was caught on tape by a television news crew reporting on Fort Lauderdale Beach Monday evening.
"The wind was whipping around, picking him up and dragging him around," said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Division Chief Lois Bowman. She said the kite surfer hit the sand, then got picked up and blown out of camera range. She did not say what happened after, but emergency workers brought him to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition this morning.

If you have GR2 look at that, much better resolution.
