Ya well, Katrina and Wilma's florida hits was insignificant in the medias eyes. They were all covering what Katrina did to the people who chose to stay in a city shaped like a Kitchen sink surrounded by water and was built on swamp, im talking about new orleans.

Well, some of those people could not afford transportation. I do remember a lot of Katrina and Wilma Florida stories in the news. I think it was what Rita did to TX and LA that got buried by the Katrina -NO story.

Personally, despite the loss of convection, I think it looks better now than it did before. The big convection blob now seems to be slowly rotating into the storm now, and I dont think it will be long before we see another intensification trend.

Dmax has yet to occur. So given that and the reduction of shear and dry-air as the hours progress, it may look prettier very soon.

I agree it doesn't have alot of convection which many have said it might not tonight, but after wathing several sat. and radar loops it looks to be wrapping up tighter.IMO

In 24 hours, SHIP model has Edouard as a hurricane.

I heard another rule of thumb, repeated after Dolly, always add a Saffir-Simpson category, at least, to official NHC forecast as another course of least regret. If they predict a Cat 1, prepare as if you'd expect at least Cat 2 conditions.

Absolutely! I remember how scared we were during Cindy in '05. She didn't get upgraded to a hurricane til after the fact. So, we thought it wouldn't be much problem through the night as she headed over this way after landfall in LA. I've lived here my entire life, so I've experienced hurricanes. However, Cindy took us by surprise: the wind howled and tornado warnings kept coming out for hours. It certainly wasn't as bad as Hurricane Frederic, but it was worse than we expected. It was a very long night I won't forget! So, yes, prepare for one category higher than predicted--- just in case.
And, on a lighter note, I highly recommend M&M's, Cheez-Its, and Yoo-Hoo as great hurricane food. Comfort foods always help in stressful times. :)

OK, I think I am in need of good "hurricane food". I have to hit the grocery in the morning and am drawing a blank on what snack type food to get....besides goldfish (ha ha ha no pun intended).

Hmm... The closer it gets to Galveston Bay, the lower the potential pressure (the stronger the cyclone)...

Looks more impressive on the Ir, but the radar shows it to be very unimpressive. We will see if it can wrap around.
