Via KTRK and Freeport Police Chief:

20% of the people stayed in Freeport/Surfside/Quintana. Their only option now is getting out their own way or sheltering in place.

Two houses in Quintana already collapsed.

The wide eye is visible on radar. You can see why the storm was unable to pull it all around and intensify. Radar track looks like it is on NHC track. Satellite looks slightly right.

Ike looks like he is headed south of Houston based on this
loop. The key of course if and when he hooks NW.
It's going to be close. IMO

It looks that on Radar that Ike is moving almost due west. Maybe an illusion.

Even now Ike's got a slightly odd presentation but its certainly a powerful hurricane and one I would not want to mess about with at all.

Hey KWT..I don't know how correct this is (because I don't know another way to check it) but both TWC and CNN reported surge in Galveston is 4-5 feet right now...

ABC 13 HOUSTON now reporting the JHawk 60 helicopters are now grounded due to dangerous wind speeds. Coast Guard is now waiting on larger choppers from National Guard and other Coast Guard Airstations.

Prices still holding firm in Spring although it appears there are a few local stations engaging in a little price gouging

Here in Sugar Land ... just finished all my preps (boarded windows, etc.). I have neighbors with kids playing in front yards, tape on windows (like that is going to do good), and even had someone say that they didn't have a change to get any supplies and were asking me how I prepared. :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

I don't know what is the proper place to put this information but I need to reach out to this group! I told family in houston areas earlier this week that Ike might come here and everyone said that it would pull a Rita and go elsewhere Even my workplace emergency prep Executives said the same thing. I was told to stop talking about the storm on Tuesday because they didn't want to start a panic.

Mark Sudduth (HurricaneChaser) said on CNN that he has never seen anything like this in his many years of chasing hurricanes in terms of the water being so high many hours before a landfall.

From that satellite would you say increase in winds in about 1-2 hours?

KatDaddy: I also left a slot like that in our french doors with Charley due to shutter failure and they didn't blast in (even though the porch screens and frames were totally ripped away in front of them).
