http://www.khou.com/ just had a met on discussing the hurricane (sorry, didn't catch his name) and consequent risks. He was good! Gave something like a 15 minute presentation too.
Edit : oops, wrong station!
It was Frank Billingsley on Channel 2 http://www.click2houston.com/index.html But KHOU is good too. I'm being impressed with Houston media.

Hey KWT..I don't know how correct this is (because I don't know another way to check it) but both TWC and CNN reported surge in Galveston is 4-5 feet right now...
Well I don't know how high the surge is in Galveston but down town Galveston is under water.

I know there is talk of ike getting stronger...but the latest satellite is just so right-quadrant heavy as far as convection that i can't see how he could grow much being so non-symmetric. What it also shows is that the right side that has not started to effect texas will be long-lasting. Not at all underestimating Ike..he is huge and dangerous..but not sure the winds themselves will go up much....maybe min cat 3 at most. Maybe a top ten storm for not good reasons as well when all is said and done.

Looks like it caught the adjoining structure on fire, as well.

yeah, as I look at this live streaming news feed from the local stations, I can't imagine that this is true. In the past hour it seems to have risen quite a lot and I don't see how that is only 4-5 feet...

Wow, it looks like the fire has caught the houses on each side on fire, look closely. Just a terrible scene.

Alot of people stayed in Galveston, and it's looking like a fatal mistake for them.
