I've always been worried about the bayous in Houston.

Here's a link to monitor levels:

Last I heard was that they had abandoned the attempt, THead

Ch. 11 just said Ike is stalled as of the past hour. Indication of a turn?

Our dog has been going nuts since yesterday afternoon and Ike isn't even coming here!

Lookin like Ike is going to landfall as a Cat 3...

At least Ike will move out out relatively fast... small blessing I guess...

I live right off of Buffalo Bayou near downtown Houston - no rain yet, but boy is it getting windy! The bayou is swelling...

THead, several hours ago they reported (one of the news stations) that all efforts by navy, coast guard, and others ceased - and noone was rescued. All 22 souls on board were still there, and hopefully they make it through.

Sen. John Cornyn on Fox News. Texas Senator...Fox News is interviewing him in Boston. He says if people in Galveston haven't heeded warning to leave yet, they should. Glad to see he is on top of this from boston.

Anyone interested in watching the news coverage in Houston can go to KHOU.com.

Watching KHOU on a satellite uplink here in Michigan. I can't believe the people in Galveston standing around and watching with everything beginning to flood and with the hurricane just off shore?? Are they nuts or what?? The wind and rain is going to pick up extremely fast in a very short period of time and then the surge on top of it. I don't blame the kids so much as they are immature and don't see the danger but what in the world are those parents thinking?? This might be a real tragedy in the making.

They never went out there, too dangerous. The ship is over 500 feet, and should not be in great danger of sinking. Coast Guard is monitoring the ship, and will be out there as soon as possible.

I'm trying to picture several thousand people trying to reach the few high spots on G.I. as things start to get really, really bad.

Not good thoughts...

Between this guy and the interview with the senator before who is proud of how evacuation went.....what's next? Should have known...tree death story.

Jijenji wrote:Fox is talking to some guy riding it out with his family and friends in one of those "one or two story homes". Sounds like he's regretting his decision. The news guy asked him what he'll do if his house fall apart. He said he didn't know.

Oh my God--Fox is reporting that a man was cutting down a tree in [correction: Tomball, north of Houston] in order to protect his house, and the tree fell on his 10-year-old son, killing him.
