To be fair, I think this is mostly directed towards central Louisiana east to the Big Bend instead of the TX coast. It could be a myth, however this particular myth, if it is a myth (and I'm not sure it's false seeing how many times it's happened) is not disproven from Ike.

Claudette certainly disproved this, going Hurricane right off the Texas coast after maintainnig a TS status for most of her life

That's why I said it wasn't directed towards TX coast, as I haven't seen a storm weaken right before TX. Rita doesn't count because a. it was the TX/LA border and b. she was actually forecast to weaken it was just slightly more than predicted.

Are people given tickets or fined when officials have to risk their own lives to save people who have been warned in advance?

They never went out there, too dangerous. The ship is over 500 feet, and should not be in great danger of sinking. Coast Guard is monitoring the ship, and will be out there as soon as possible.

correction... coast guard did go.... AF301 also aided in the rescue but could not get lower than 2,000ft due to winds.... rescue attempt was unsuccessful because surface winds were to strong. The AF301 crew gave the CG rescue helos surface wind speeds for the coords that we had passed along to them. I talked with the crews when they returned... and we had constant communication between the AF301 crew while airborne in the rescue area.... if you look at the HDOBs from that flight you can clearly see the AF301 crew went into SAR mode.

Wow, I can't wait to hear the rest of this story, hopefully it will have a happy ending. Its great to see how everyone pulls together in time of need, great reply to my post, thank you!!

PLEASE take it easy on the huge pics. And for heaven's sake, don't quote the pics so they have to load multiple times. I can barely get any pages to load.

Thank you.

Southeast bottom corner of Harris County. It's kind of due north from Galveston. I think it's where a lot of the bayous end up, since it's near the ship channel and I believe the lowest part of the county.

Baytown is due east of Houston, so prob a little NE of Galveston. It's a good distance but not far from the Bay they'll likely have some bad flooding.

Going completely off eyesight, no official obs yet supporting it, but it looks like it could be happening.

Unfortunately I'm now more confident of this than just a couple of minutes ago, as a new doppler frame has come in and a yellow band is now also on the NW side.

Lake Charles doppler concurs.

Sadly the flooding of baytown really isn't all that surprising, given the the way the surge is pushing into the gulf.
