That seems very out of line with the video I'm seeing and with the official surface observations. From the trees and rain/spray patterns on the major network feeds, I'd estimate gusts in the 70 to 85 mph range.

Geraldo was having problems standing, almost being blown over at times, but I do agree that 117mph seems a bit too high. I wouldn't doubt gusts to at least 85-90mph though, because numbers in that range have been reported by another network as well (I think it was CNN).I call absolute B.S.
He was having no trouble standing up, and his assistant with the anemometer claimed gusts over 100mph with sustained winds of 70mph. I have stood with VERY accurate wind meters (at 33 feet) and hand held on a lake durring katrina, and outside durring wilma... and it is not easily possible to stand up in 45+mph winds let alone 60+. 60+ and tree's begin to fall... gerald i'm sure is not as strong as a tree. ;p

Do you really think you can stand in 100+ mph winds? Drive 100mph in your car and stick your arm out the window...there's your answer.
