That seems very out of line with the video I'm seeing and with the official surface observations. From the trees and rain/spray patterns on the major network feeds, I'd estimate gusts in the 70 to 85 mph range.

It was probably Geraldo talking into the anemometer producing the 117mph gust

I call absolute B.S.

He was having no trouble standing up, and his assistant with the anemometer claimed gusts over 100mph with sustained winds of 70mph. I have stood with VERY accurate wind meters (at 33 feet) and hand held on a lake durring katrina, and outside durring wilma... and it is not easily possible to stand up in 45+mph winds let alone 60+. 60+ and tree's begin to fall... gerald i'm sure is not as strong as a tree. ;p

There is no link, it was live tv. If it was just a minute ago, you think it'd be on a web page other than someplace like here?

Man, waiting to see if this eye wall is going to go up the bay is killing me. Looks wobbled north again. Still a change the winds dont come out of the south in the bay if it passes directly over the bay I think.

AND YES that was Jeff Linder on Khou

I agree. I have been in 100 mph gust and you cant stand up and hold up cameras and other gear. I was just relaying what he was reporting. I agree that it looked more like 70 or MAYBE 80, but not much more.

Aka, there was no 117mph wind gust. I own my own little wind gadget, above a certain speed they aren't as accurate. Plus well, it's Geraldo.

This is not the time nor place to talk about the veracity of Fox News :x
Do you really think you can stand in 100+ mph winds? Drive 100mph in your car and stick your arm out the window...there's your answer.

Geraldo was having problems standing, almost being blown over at times, but I do agree that 117mph seems a bit too high. I wouldn't doubt gusts to at least 85-90mph though, because numbers in that range have been reported by another network as well (I think it was CNN).

Sustained at 100mph = No way.
Brief gusts to 100mph = Possibly.

Sheppard is breathless. We're going to get "an historic look inside the eye of the storm in a moment".

Really.
