If they're reporting a gust of 125 mph it's not where Geraldo is.

along with 'breach' and 'overtop'

If all networks were forced to pay 1 dollar every time their reporters/mets said "hunker-down", they could pay for all of the damage that the storm is doing.

ok..back on topic

Shepard Smith recently (not now, a few minutes ago) said, in a few minutes we will see this low end Category 3 make landfall.

Personally I hope for a gust of 125 where Geraldo is so that he is blown away.
Maybe he can ask Al Capone where the valuables really are when he gets there. (obscure reference)

Enough with Fox News people!!! With this great website, why on earth would you rely on FOX? I have opinions on other stories on Fox, but this is a weather board and I will leave it here. (But if they stretch the truth with the weather, I wonder what else they stretch the truth with,hmmm.....) :?:

Boy, you had best hope this weakens fast. Those winds whipping between those tall buildings will be wicked....

IKE STILL HAS ABOUT A 6-HOUR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY TO STRENGTHEN
INTO A 100-KT MAJOR HURRICANE. EQUALLY IMPORTANT...HOWEVER...IS THE
EFFECT THAT STRONGER WINDS ALOFT WILL HAVE ON HIGH RISE BUILDINGS.
WIND DATA FROM LAND-BASED DOPPLER RADARS AND AIRCRAFT DROPSONDES
INDICATE THAT WINDS NEAR CATEGORY 4 STRENGTH...115 KT OR 130 MPH
...EXIST JUST A FEW HUNDRED FEET ABOVE THE SURFACE. THERE COULD BE A
REPEAT OF DAMAGE TO WINDOWS IN HIGH RISE STRUCTURES SIMILAR TO WHAT
OCCURRED DURING HURRICANE ALICIA IN 1983. THE PEAK WIND SPEED AND
VARIOUS WIND RADII WERE HELD HIGHER THAN OUR INLAND WIND DECAY
MODELS ARE PREDICTING DUE TO THE MUCH LARGER SIZE OF IKE.

That's not good. I think Houston is going to be one big mess.

Ike's going to sling that convective burst around onshore right as the eye makes landfall. Like winding up a sandbag and hammering you with it.

I agree. 127 would blow you down the beach, or seawall, or wherever the heck you were if out in the open. It's is "just" possible to stand in place with grippy boots on and a very big lean at around 100 mph, but a sudden gust at 100 is going to make you run involuntarily down the way if it doesn't flat knock you down.

At 127, no one can stay in one place.

Can we stop with the bashing? If you do not like it then don't watch that channel....lets get back to observing the storm instead of the reporters....

As was stated...more than one news channel was reporting over 125 mph winds...

...so about Ike...looks like we have about an hour before official landfall.

Maybe the calmer eye will pass over Galveston bay instead of the highest winds in the eastern eyewall driving the water up the bay.

The surge might end up being a few feet lower or maybe the seawall won't get completely washed out.

ok....weather hats on....heard earlier that the thing to look out for in galveston is a wind shift to he se. that shift would literally mean a difference in billions of dollars of damage. i know it has to do with the eye in relation to the bay but can't quite get my arms around track that would result in se wind.

Rain starting, outside drinking vino w/ Los Salvadorenos, seen several transformer explosions that light up the sky, lights flicker each time, but stay on...
