ATL: IKE Discussion

I have to think that Geraldo's anemometer is reading in km/hr instead of mi/hr. Many electronic anemometers allow you to change the units of the speed reading. The measured winds of "110-120" would make sense if it is 110-120 km/hr. There is no way the winds that Geraldo is apparently reporting are in mph.

so there is still a bit of 'wiggle room' so to speak as far as a really bad surge and a really really bad surge in the bay?

The track needs to come around just a little more to the north so the eyewall winds from the SE pass east of the Bay not over the island and up the bay.

BTW I just saw the camera pull back on Heraldo's location......I saw a big fan to his left and 3 guys with five gallon buckets of water behind him rolling the water up to his feet. LOL (kidding)
By the way. What time was that advisory put out. The one that states Ike has 6 hours to strengthen?

Is there a possiblity that the wrapping of the this convection that trying to work its way around the eastern eye wall cause it to wobble west. Its been doing such funny things. I get my hops up one minute that it will go east of the bay, and the next minute I see it wobble west. On IR, Shortwave and Funktop, it acually seems to have wobbled west while Radar wobbles North...curses...

Where are you getting this information from? The weather is too bad in Galveston for anyone to be out confirming this especially close to the seawall.
I have heard the reporters on msnbc and fox talking about it, but they are not on the seawall. they are across the street on the hill, so I don't know how they can tell from where they are at.

Geraldo is broadcasting live from the seawall right now on Fox.
Thats not parts of the seawall. Below that wall (vacation there every year) its about 12-15 feet down and at the base of that wall is piles of rocks from small to large. I've see those broken rocks all over the road throughout the day. I'm pretty sure thats not sewall.
I could be wrong but i don't think so.

The Attorney General's pleased demeanor and pride that they avoided Rita mess is actually a bit offensive when we don't know what awaits us in light of day. Saying that everyone is basically gone from the surge zone except those who would never leave and that anyone left stayed because the area is just part of there dna. Not going political after this post....but he should watch the high-fiving at this point.

Gerlado never said that the SeaWall was coming apart...he said that the road that butts up to the seawall was starting to crumble...he specifically said that it was the asphalt of the road.

Geraldo's false and over dramatic reporting tonight is a disgrace, and serves no purpose other then getting ratings.
This is why you should always get your information from official sources.

I don't want to be argumentative, but what I was shown looked like about a one-foot piece of asphalt, not a rock.

It is probably debris from docks that have been destroyed as opposed to chunks of the seawall coming off. That is very doubtful considering how the wall is built.

My bad. When he said Seawall, he must have met Seawall blvd which is the street he is on. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Pretty sure that seawall won't breech.

I turned on CNN to see whats going on with the Hurricane and we're talking about the presidential race!
Geraldo is just sensationalizing the situation. His job is to get the ratings. A lot of mis-information being thrown out from Fox. Shep said we were minutes from landfall and this was like before 10 pm CST. Geraldo swearing they are getting Cat 3 winds and he is standing like it's no big deal. This is false info from our FOX Friends.
