I have to agree, but when the east half of that eye wall comes around again, I would not disagree. Of course he needs to tie himself off to that palm nearby...

Geraldo's anemometer is most likely reporting in km/hr, not mph. He's said gusts to 120-130 several times, and that has to be 120-130 km/hr. There is no way he's getting 120-130 mph gusts right now (not w/ the winds parallel to the shore like they are right now). A tad farther to the NE of Galveston (in on-shore flow) has the best chance to see 120 mph gusts.

No, I've tried to tell people, but the seawall is only 10 FEET above sea level. Erosion has caused this in the last century.

That is totally and patently incorrect the Seawall varies between 15-17 feet. Your welcome to go and search that fact.

Again, there is a big difference between the right-front and the left-front part of Ike. Example: RECON is reporting very large swaths of 95-105 kt winds at FL to the NW of the center, while winds to the SW of the center are largely 65-75 kts at FL. Coincident with that will be a huge difference in the surge. In fact, in the left-front quad of the storm will see offshore winds that will actually act to drive the surge DOWN instead of up. Damage will likely still be very, very bad, but that may have been a wobble for the ages for those in Galveston. ENE and NE winds continue near Houston, which is not forcing the water into the bays like was forecast when it looked like Ike would hit SW of Galveston. So, surge in and around Houston may well be less than anticipated as well.

That's what I suspected with that wobble. Just like Ivan for Mobile (and for wind purposes, Katrina for New Orleans). Just a few minutes here or a few miles there... amazing how close things can come sometimes to the absolute worst-case scenario and just miss.

Amazing????....or divine intervention

He's moving to the WNW again so it looks like he'll hit a little west of downtown Galveston on the east end and due south of Bayou Vista.

It was BUILT 15-17. Tell me, if the seawall is 16 feet then why is 12 foot surge gushing over it?

How many false wind reports from Geraldo alone have we had tonight? I agree there needs to be laws against this. Such misinformation is inexcusable.

The eye is the size of Galveston Bay... and Ike might just put the entire bay inside the eye at once.

Rain finally starting here, winds gusting close to 50mph, and somehow I still have power. It flickered once about a hour ago...

Lol, Have you ever been to Galveston?.......I go every year.

2-Because the Ocean has something called waves. If the surge was at 10 feet and the wall was 10 feet the Waves would be breaking over Geraldo himself. Saavy?

and F Because I fish off the Seawall every year. And I know approximately how many rocks I have to climb down off the Seawall. and it ain't no 10 feet.

Any other questions?

Thought Not! 8-)
