Re: Hurricane Bertha in Western Atlantic

i would like someone's opinion on how much weakening upwelling will likely cause

i have been sort of harping about this, but perhaps someone with a better historical memory or info could give their opinion. Since this is only 90 mph to begin with would upwelling potentially bring this down to a strong tropical storm, or likely minimal cane (i'm sure it's structure would be a factor sas well) any thoughts on this?

BOTH INFRARED AND MICROWAVE
IMAGERY SUGGEST THERE IS STILL SOMETHING OF AN INNER EYEWALL THAT
REFUSES TO COMPLETELY GO AWAY...WHILE THE OUTER EYEWALL PERSISTS AS
A CLOSED RING AT A SLIGHTLY SMALLER RADIUS THAN 24 HOURS AGO. ALL
OF THAT MEANS THAT THE WELL-ADVERTISED EYEWALL REPLACEMENT CYCLE IS
NOT EXACTLY PROCEEDING AT A BLISTERING PACE.

Using the SSD IR floater, I measured the eye north to south to be 97 miles.

Total eye area: 7390 mi2
Total area of Bermuda: 20.6 mi2

Total Bermudas in the eye: 359

If we say that Bertha's eye is 90 miles across (diameter) [45 mile radius], then the area is pi*r*r = 3.14 * 45 * 45 = 6358.5 sq mi.

Bermuda has an area of 20.6 sq mi. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermuda

Therefore,

6358.5 / 20.6 = 309 Bermudas

Thanks everyone that participated. Maybe we should do something similar every night!!!

Do I see a smile? Rotate it 90 degrees counterclock wise in your mind's eye...

But if you consider the fact that we cannot clone islands, and that there is only one Bermuda, then therefore we can logically conclude that only 1 Bermuda can fit into the eye of Hurricane Bertha 8-)

it has to be at least 85KT to be considered annular

so this doesn't fit. The debate over structure is a moot point

Looks alot like one of the smurf's to me!
It is very interesting learning from all online. It will be interesting to see what Bertha does. The weather underground forcast shows it looping. Just learning and lurking from time to time.
Thanks for the information and knowledge I am gathering!

This is the end of the road for me tonight. Tomorrow should be an interesting day and another RECON mission. Good night!
