Well Sanibel a big convective burst has just gone up over the northern eyewall as edges upto the coast, would have to imagine there'd be at least hurricane force gusts in that part of the eyewall if not sustained hurricane force by now.

First and foremost,I am NOT referring to Hannah.

Is there any potential for gustav to interact with Invest 96L as far as affecting the projected path?If they do get close enough to interact in any way,how would they?Would Gustav draw 96L northerly or could the opposite happen and Gustav take a more westerly course? This storm is turning into Fay part 2 as far as trying to figure out where it wants to go and I am just curious as to what (if any) effect 96L could have on this storm.

Thanks,
Blaine in Gretna

Yea, nobody seems to mentioning the invest in the gulf, which is suprising, and the potential shear it may create for Gustav

The only way that the Invest in the BOC will affect Gustav would be for it to develop an anticyclone over it which would create shear in the western portions of the Gulf of Mexico. The likelihood of the Invest doing this is not very high as it should be going inland fairly quickly.

Right on the tip and will probably run the length. What are the odds. :) Let's hope this significantly reduces the strength of Gus once he makes it into the GOM.

this thing is like Fay, trying to hit each landmass possible along the way...will probably slam into the yucatan as well before recurving

This won't have the same impact as Hispaniola and in the end it won't matter. There will be plenty of time for Gustav to recover.

Sure didn't take the Blue Mtns. long, Sanibel. Gus appeared to me to be sloughing some of his core just prior to landfall, but then my 02. has been eaten up by inflation. I wish Gus would die.

Looks like Gustav will go right through the path of highest heat content, if this doesn't become a cat-4/5 on a path like that with decent conditions I'll be rather surprised.

Jamaica really won't do a huge deal of damage to Gustav, may weaken this a little but don't expect the inner core to be totally gone like it was with Haiti.

Perhaps, but the mountains on that side of Jamaica are quite tall.

Stoddards peak is over 2100m (6888 ft).

Wow, a perfect trail to follow. Nice graphic.

Motion to me, slightly North of West. Not so sure this runs the spine, thinking maybe closer to the N coast.

Yeah, look at how MUCH better organized and larger it is than it was last night. I'll be very surprised if this is not a major hurricane in a couple of days. I'm sure Jamaica will knock it down a little but I doubt it has any long-term impact(as we saw from Haiti yesterday):
