I can see this being a Cat1 at 1PM adv. I think this will make landfall just north of brownsville as a 90-100mph as it could go under RI. Conditions look right for it if the eyewall does get its act together.

The structure is really looking good with Dolly now, eyewall is closing up and I'd have thought it won't be long before we see some sort of eye developing on the Ir/Vis imagery either.

Looks like Houston/Galveston might start getting our share of moisture soon ... glad I waited to water the lawn!

Checking the latest water vapor loop and it seem that Dolly isn't going anywhere fast ... perhaps steering currents are weakening as predicted?

Does look like its close to being a hurricane, the worrying thing is this will be coming into the coast pretty close to Dmax so we may well see pretty rapid strengthening in the next 6-18hrs once that eyewall finally closes up soon.

Lots of outer bands hitting much of the gulf coast.

this would make me breathe easier in Corpus, obviously still making preparations but the sort of adjustments that residents would like to see

The winds have already picked up here in the Clear Lake area as the first bands are affecting Galveston now. I love the color of the skies when these feeder bands roll across.

lrak wrote:Off topic, makes the roots better? Didn't know that.

OT - Makes roots go deeper to find water, thus making grass stronger in general. Also mow on highest setting - longer blades of grass shade roots. We never water and our grass looks great. Added benefit - for occasional freezes, makes grass tougher if roots are stronger - withstands freezes too. Not that that's much of a problem these days.

Back on topic, in Houston I'm reporting white, puffy, cumulus clouds. Light breeze from the east, though. That's gotta be first effects from Dolly. She's a huge storm.

Reminds me alot of the beginnings of Rita here in Clear Lake. Although the winds got alot higher and guster as Rita got closer than this storm. It appears to be a little cooler too. Yesterday was a scorcher! :bday:

Sorry if I start to post a lot, I don't have any scientific information, but I can give some current observation and I may set up a web cam at home looking over the OSO bay. For some reason posting with you guys and gals gives me some comfort, and I might become a super spam machine before this is all over. Normally I don't post and just read, but you guys are helping just by responding...even if it says "stop spaming you kook"

I like this cam and what you're seeing is downtown Corpus Christi, Ocean Drive, on the northeast side of Corpus Christi bay. We should be able to watch some of the Northern feeder bands from this cam. The cam is looking wnw.

Irak: Perhaps you might want to use the preps/obs/webcams thread at the top of the forum so your obs don't get lost in the clutter here.
