Ok thats pretty constant I've got to admit!
Won't be long before the northern eyewall is over water and we shall see how it responds.

For now shear isn't bad over Ike...

Now if we could just get this kind of consistency run after run on the models we would be crystal.. ;)

Talking about shear latest maps come in, shear has *decreased* over and around the region Ike is in now down to 5kts.

It does increase a little further west but its still not all that high. Mid level shear still looks low as well...

there is some shear about 28N which if it stays in place could cause shear for Ike whilst its in the NW gulf but a LONG time till then and things will no doubt change...

Ike's overall shield looks to be getting bigger.

Go to models thread and look at the big shift north by GFDL.

Unbelievable footage of the storm surge in Cuba. And I keep saying to myself this is a minimal Cat 1 cane. This footage says it all:

A very large windfield. Gust up to 40mph at time across S FLA. A gust of 39mph was recently logged at Miami. That is 258 miles NE of center.

Key West about 170 miles from the center has ESE winds at 41G57mph.

Certainly is very impressive footage, though the footage from the other end of Cuba was even more amazing with the huge waves crashing.

Inner core nearly at the coast now, not long to wait, probably won't strengthen too quickly at first but I suspect we will see Ike do some decent things...

I think the inner core is going to make it alright. If it's downgraded to a tropical storm, it will be in name only--structure is still full-blown nasty ex-cat4 hurricane--and it had to have been cat 4 on landfall.

Not even sure we've heard all that much from Holguin, for example.

I'm all the way up here in Cape Coral, and we just had a gust that blew my swing across the front porche....wasn't expecting that

Aristotle, that footage was taken in eastern Cuba when Ike was a category 3 hurricane.

i'm pretty sure a lot of that wind is due to the pressure gradient bwtn Ike and the High Pressure to its NE. Not sure if it is technically part of Ike's wind field

Where can I find the that kind of information ? It would be intersting to track the winds here.

Edit...never mind, i found it :D

Yeah the wind in Florida is being enhanced by the gradient between the high and Ike, still pretty impressive though.

Also the GFDL has really shifted north...in a big way

It is consistently windier today in my opinion than it was with fay..and she was so much closer. But if the gradient is partly the culpit, than that explains why it is so windy 300+ miles from center.

Pretty nasty band moving through Miami...if we are seeing sustained winds of 20-30...that band could have some brief gusts well over 40 mph.
