Re: Cat. 4 Hurricane Gustav in NW Caribbean Sea
"What category surge will Gustav carry with him...that is the question."
Just my opinion but a surge from a 3 that was a 4/5 is much more devastating than a 3 that was a 1/2.

Beaumont has a mandatory evacuation, southerngal? I can't blame them even if it may seem just a bit premature, the taste of Rita is still in everyone's mouth! I think it is sad that Beaumont is evacuation (if true) before New Orleans. I mean sad in that New Orleans is waiting too long, just to clarify.
Of course it's true. I live here. I wouldn't lie about it. geesh

There is real-time recon data for google earth.
This is the link, it should display data automatically if you have GE open or tell it to open with GE.
You have to click the radio button in the GE Place list for the recon flight you want to display -- by default it opens with "Do not display any missions" selected.
The amount of decoded data you can see this way is amazing. I can tell the flight took off and passed only a few miles east of my house in Key Largo.

not in Mississippi or Alabama.
I can understand that, but why evacuate to an area that could just as easily get hit? If that thing swings over to Houston and a ton of folks from Louisiana have the roads congested, then evacuation for the Houston area won't be possible at all.
Last report we got here is that everything in S, SC and SE TX is at 100%. Houston is not setting up shelters for evacuees because we are also in the possible path of Gustav. Evacuees need to go on to San Antonio, or Austin or place N or NW of Houston, not here. People evacuating need to be going North whether they are from LA or Texas.

Wow, please don't be so testy. I only said the "(if true)" because I asked you for verification and obviously didn't have the answer yet. I didn't think you would lie but just wanted to verify as I have family in Beaumont and none of them have called me and given me this information yet.

In other news that you don't want to hear, NHC has TS Hanna heading into the Florida Straits later this week. It's early though.
(Sorry about the OT, but it could be a post-Gustav event that complicates things significantly.)
