Hardin is NORTHeast of Houston! Much further from the coast.
It appears the official government policy of Houston and Harris County is to let the residents take it in the teeth.
I suspect officials just realized that not making a call 72 hours out has made evacuation too dangerous. They are CYA with the voluntary evacuations and hoping Ike weakens or hits elsewhere. It's a HUGE gamble.

To be on track with the models he needs to turn to the WNW doesn't he?

Anybody with an head for economics what to explain what a 115 mile wide cat 4 hit on Galveston would do to gas prices. I saw a thing on CNN that actually came out this year that I think was based on Rita with direct hit on Houston would push prices up to almost $7.00 because it would shut down so much oil production. I was also thinking, with IKE so big it will surely effect many oil platforms off the entire coast of LA and certainly Lake Charles and beaumont area rfineries would have to shut down as well if landfall at or above Galveston. This isnt looking good for an already oil strained economy.

It just keeps getting bleaker for Houston and Galveston.
It's hard enough to get homeowner insurance in this area. After this, companies would have to be forced to write policies because this could be enormous.
If you're State Farm, why wouldn't you logically say, "We're not selling insurance along the Gulf Coast anymore." We'll focus on safer places like Idaho.
Come to Florida here and try to get insurance, or anything that's budget reasonable and not 4k a year+. State farm just tried to double rates again but the state refused to allow them to do such things. Just wondering why is it so hard in texas?

Ike is 10 miles smaller then Katrina's hurricane force winds of 125 miles, and 25 miles smaller of her 230 miles of tropical storm force winds.

Yeah...I havent felt this sense of impending doom factor for a major city since Katrina. be that as it may. NO reason to panic. Things can change. Dry air and shear can happen...
EDIT; TOTALLY off my clock...thought it was Thursday...LOL

Not to be redundant, but to follow that track Ike needs to start heading WNW now, and we have had a huge swing northward since last night at this time when the concensus looked like CC. Big change in 24 hours.

Why am I getting shades of the worst parts of the 2005 season back into my head?
Prayers sent upwards and onwards...
Is Ike Texas sized or not?

I think there's quite the reason to panic..in my situation.
I'm one of those people who can't afford to evacuate.
I can't fathom leaving on the 211 method to shelters in points unknown alone with three kids...and no money.
I also cannot fathom staying here and dealing with this howling monster, as it appears on the radar now.
