First don't be scared but be prepared! Listen to you local mets, the nhc, and the authorities where you live. If they tell you to leave then leave.

I think (don't hold my feet to the fire) that this is the Navy weather satellite link that we can use during the eclipse...

Hate to say this, but I'm afraid Ike may be in a "bomb out" phase from the looks of tonight's sat presentations.

Guess I'll find out in the morning.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "bomb out" phase?

"bomb out" = 'blow up' or get really big, fast.

Bombing out is a slang phrase for RI, or rapid intensification.

Ike's barometric pressure has dropped in a big way tonight and now, from sat presentation, it appears that the storm may be getting its act together.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if the winds make a big jump before morning, maybe upper Cat 3/Low Cat 4.

Aww I'm prepared, we have our hotel reservations and are ready to go, if things hadn't changed much by tomorrow and we aren't sure what to do, we are going with our guts and are headed to Arkansas. I'm not scared for my life, I'm scared for my home lol, we just moved here, and it would suck to lose it. But I rather be alive then dead. It just sucks for all involved.

No, I certainly don't think it's a Cat 4 right now (although the eye is a pinhole).

But I think it may be well on its way from the way its looking right now.

I think you said earlier you're in SE Texas, too?

If that's the case, if it were to go straight up - we'd be good to go. However, Florida and the likes..not so much. I'm here because I'm scared, too. But straight up shouldn't worry you. The current track should, IMO.

As long as that inner eye wall remains this won't become a upper cat3 or cat4. I can't wait intil recon gets in to see if the inner eye wall is going away in the outter eye is contracting...Once it does that then the storm will power up fast.

It just looks like it's moving north because the convection is growing around it. It's an illusion.

Does it look like an alien embryo in the final image from that loop?

People tend to use that phrase when they think that a storm is undergoing explosive deepening. It's been my experience that more than 90% of the time they are wrong.

Funny, thought the same thing, that it looks like an embryo in that last shot.

Or like the intensification "fist."

Yes I am, but it would suck for the people who are straight above it, are they prepared, shouldn't they be prepared just in case? Anytime we have one that goes into the Gulf we are prepared since Rita lol.. Oh the current track scares me for my home.

Haha...yes..I moved here last year after living in Mobile (right on the water), then Hattiesburg, MS for college (where Katrina did some major damage). I have been through my share of fun times with hurricanes (5 trees through the roof with Ivan and total roof damage with Katrina the next year), and decided I would rather be far away from that. Now I just deal with tornadoes...

Yep, most of the time, talk of RI is just that, talk.

But given the pressure fall tonight, the improving ventilation (from my perspective), and the deep convection and sat presentation, I don't know...maybe this one is moving in that direction.

Was Opal maybe of similar size? I don't know where to find the wind radius for this one, but it looks huge in this picture. Since it had an amazingly low pressure for a category 4 hurricane, I think there's some comparison here.

A bit off topic I suppose, but when Opal underwent RI, if I remember right, it was the night before the OJ verdict.

Ironically enough, with Ike threatening the WGOM, OJ is back in court I see...
