Fox News just put up a bulletin saying Gustav is tracking more West. If latest recon said movement went from 310 to 320 then where are they getting this information from? There is so much wrong information out there!

Possible, yes, only possible. It's certainly not likely. Especially because it's forecasted as such by the NHC, right?

People have been saying it's getting stronger since earlier this morning....Hmm, last time I checked, the winds were 115 mph. So it's weaker not stronger.....

Could this be the Tilting aftect due to sheer?

I don't trust the cable news channels when it comes to weather. I think one of them still had the winds at 120mph last I checked.

Look at a satellite loop of the last two hours and the falling pressure from recon.

This will come in as a reported 3 -- might be downgraded in post analysis but they will likely keep it at 115 if it remains a steady state until landfall.

Innotech, this one is right for you on NHC path. Maybe a touch east. Get ready.

I wish they would realize how many people are relying on them for ACCURATE information. Fox News is notorious for making stupid mistakes like that but it isn't only them! Thank God for this place!

I hate to ask questions about the projected impact time but this pic suggests it could be earlier than 8 AM CDT...

Right ?

I think thats probably the most likely reason, if the LLC is matching up towards the MLC then it suggests the shear is easing off somewhat. I can see what deltadog is talking about as well.

Eye is closed up now again though its pretty obvious where it is.

Their website, foxnews.com, still shows as the main headline "TARGET: NEW ORLEANS"

I have been watching Fox News and saw nothing of the sort. Where are you getting this info? All they are showing is the cone.

superfly, that slight dry air (thats all it is) is all a function of the shear, its no doubt in my mind the main reason why its not really strengthening, look at the IR and you can see it looks like a sheared loop sided system, though obviously its still a very powerful hurricane.
