I agree Derek. Looking at RECON data, we may have some big changes ahead the next few hours.

Derek -- If you have time, can you elaborate? Your opinions carry a lot of weight around here, and I don't know if many people will fully understand what you meant when you said the sat presentation worried you. I know I don't. :)

Thanks!

Best it's looked since Cuba! I'm getting concerned too. Gonna be a long night.

Bursting going on in the N.Eyewall now, winds may well increase if that keeps up, reminds me of what happened before its last burst of strengthening before Cuba.

Structure is looking increasingly symmetric as well, just lacking an eye.

It's starting to rain hard here in Biloxi, experiencing some squalls and gusty winds, lots of thunder, could this the beginning of Gustav for my area?

I've been talking to people in the city that are DOWNPLAYING the potential effects because "it's only a cat 3 with 115 winds." Big lesson about to be taught in south-central Louisiana. It's been DECADES since we've even had sustained cat 1 winds here and from reading what many of our great posters have reported having gone through with Wilma, Charley, Rita, Ivan, etc I'm braced for quite a blow.

Lol, Im not going to bed either...I just hope power holds up!

I have a BIG generator :D .

Lol..My parents do as well...which means Im going to their house

The last hour's sat images have me worried as well. This will not be good in Southern Louisiana.

It's actually bigger than before it hit Cuba, but the field of hurricane-force winds is smaller. Would that help it intensify more quickly?

I agree, Derek... I stepped away for about an hour and a half to watch UK and UL... and when I came back, I didn't like what I saw.

Yeah, it's Gustav. I just had a brief shower and gusty winds here and I'm 150 miles inland.

Some of the hospitals who had planned to shelter in place changed their minds at the last minute, and they've been airlifting the patients to Austin and somewhere else I can't remember, maybe Memphis.

It's getting mighty dark here. How much could Gus strengthen this close to landfall?
