Finally, a long tracker with a nice, clear eye. None of that interaction bizz. It's like having a clear night to view the pleiades. Was beginning to think Bertha was going to be my only one...

Thats a myth.

EDIT: Myth might be a little harsh, but stronger does not mean more north in this case.

Are you sure, Any pro mets confirm this?
Man I wish recon could go out that far...

That's something you can only confirm retrospectively. You can't "confirm" if RI will happen even though people around here like to throw that term around a lot.

You were saying? :P

Thats a myth.

I wouldn't call it a myth per se but it definitely is nowhere near to universal and is tossed around here far too much.

If that eye clears out and blacks form around it, I think it is possible this could grow into a strong cat4 or weak cat5. OF course we will have to see.

8:20pm est I say this is 105 knot.

No way NHC upgrades to cat 5 without recon, IMO

Yeah they had to spoil the fun (I use the word 'fun' as loosely as possible here)! Also Irene too, though she tried her best since for a while it looked like there was a chance of a major hitting the east coast. Still 4 years in a row of monster I storms was somewhat eerie if coincidental.

I just had a deji vu of that for a minute there. I had a feeling they would just jump straight to major strength and forget about calling this a 70 knot hurricane 3 hours ago! I'm happy now. That would make this a 30 knot jump in 3 hours, LOL. Yep, confirmed to be RI like I had a hunch at and everyone else for that matter.

Now that I look at it more closely, it could even be higher then 100 knots. The eye has to clear out a bit more though since the eyewall has been strengthening rapidly. Maybe the thread title should have Major in it?

NHC Public Advisory wrote:IKE IS A DANGEROUS CATEGORY THIRD HURRICANE

They had to write it fast so there was a mistake here.
