Tim, try it now. Posted the wrong link. Put quality on 100%, zoom in high, and animate for however long you want to see it.

alicia83 wrote:Someone was saying this wouldn't be worse than Katrina for New Orleans, and talking about storm surge. A weatherman on WDSU or Channel 6 NOLA explained that the storm surge into NOLA would be 5 ft., but piled on top of that are the 26' waves that the storm will be pushing into the river and canals.

I don't know if he's correct, but if someone can speak to this, please do so.

I think because the storm surge from Katrina isn't what actually caused the damage...in other words, it was an engineering disaster, not a natural disaster that caused NO's damage. I would think that there would be more than a 5ft surge for NO though! (This is just my opinion, not a forecast..blah, blah, blah...)

Hyperstorm wrote:Pressure is up slightly, so the system is steady state right now. That's what happens when you follow short term trends. You cannot just assume you will see a system explode in intensity when you see deep reds on satellite for an hour or two.

The system still may strengthen some to around 125 mph during the next 6 hours with another burst of convection, but after that it should level off and/or slowly weaken as it heads toward the coast with increasing shear. Landfall should be anywhere from 115-125 mph at the most.

God Bless everyone in its path.

I wish that winds at landfall were the worst of my worries. They are not. I pray for the safety and property security of those who are about to be affected by this storm.

Batten down the hatches there CajunMama. New track is directly over Lafayette (my home town). Lafayette hasn't seen a hurricane this strong in quite a while pass directly overhead.

Have we had one directly in the path? My brain is on overload right now. We'll be very alert of what is going on around us. Thanks.

Us cajuns must be a hardheaded group. PTracker, crazycajuncane, srt, Innotech, Breinla, Mahmoo, Tenspeed and forgive me if i forgot anyone else are all staying here.

I guess one could say, Gustav has arrived at the US. Again, my prayers go to all in his path.

Looks to me that the ULL low that went west of Gustav today is now following it from the S. First question, is that a proper assesment? Second: Will it tend to push it N. quicker or move it more to the W?

Don't know if this will make you feel any better, but i'm just north of I-10 in Biloxi, that part of town is my stompin' grounds. She should be monitoring the weather (I'm sure she is) and taking precautions. Hopefully she's in a brick home and can contact a neighbor if need be. That area isn't prone to flooding; it didn't flood there during Katrina. At this time we're not expecting more than tropical force winds. I've been here since 1967 and have been through a few myself. Btw, I'm a fellow Missourian myself, lived in the Sedalia area for several years and my family is from the Bonne Terre/Park Hills area.
