They're starting the first pass - from the NW - looks like that quad. is the weakest.

Heh...the ERC never completely completed, and that has killed this storm...along with some upwelling I'm sure.

Think it's drifted a bit SW since the first VDM?

72 kts is the most they found in the NE quad? She's in really bad shape.

78 knots were found in the SE quadrant. Yesterday it was found that the SE quadrant is the strongest in this storm.

That makes sense, the fronts that are stalling her to the W and N are tearing her up on those sides - SE is the only quad where she still has any strength.

Good news for Bermuda - except for the lack of needed rainfall.

Yeah - slight drift to W and S based on VDMs this mission.

Looks like the highest SMFR found was 58 knots...so a 60 knot tropical storm seems reasonable.

Plus, 78 knot flight level wind, using a reduction of .75 comes out to 58.5 knots. 78*0.8 = 62.4 knots.

The weakest part of Bertha is the NW Quadrant and the strongest is the SE Quadrant.

In summary after the mission has been completed, what is Bertha now, still a hurricane or a tropical storm?

Don't know how the winds are reduced, but Bertha looks to be a strong tropical storm or very weak hurricane.

78*.90 = 70.2 knots

78*.75 = 58.5 knots

.75 reduction is average for the planes... each plane has a different reduction rate.....

Fascinating - is that because they have different power/speed capabilities? Maybe a different aerodynamic profile?

there is, but only the ARWOs have it... it would be a cardinal sin if I got my hands on it.
